The seventh generation was launched in 2001. While previous generations kept redesigning the exterior dimensions, interior space has been enhanced in part by a flat rear floor. The front suspension was changed to a double Wishbone a MacPherson strut, in order to reduce costs and allow more space for the bonnet of the new Honda introduced the K-series engine. Also increased the power in some trim levels. In North America, coupe and sedan bodystyles were available, except for the Si (SIR in Canada) which was offered only as a three-door Hatchback. The rest of the world received three and five-door hatchbacks.
